Forty Years Ago Today

Simon Sees - the love of my life

Forty years ago today, I embarked on a journey that would change my life forever. I left my country of birth and arrived in Canada, to start a new life with Marie. As I reflect on the past 4 decades in this incredible country, I’m filled with gratitude for the experiences, challenges, and joys that have shaped our lives.

Together, we’ve been blessed with two wonderful daughters. As they’ve grown into the remarkable women they are today, I’ve watched with pride as they’ve embraced the best of what Canada has to offer, from its diverse cultures and landscapes to its opportunities for education and personal growth. In many ways, my daughters represent the fulfillment of the dreams that brought me to Canada all those years ago.

The past 40 years in Canada have been filled with countless blessings, along with our children, I experience enormous joy from our four grandchildren. Watching them grow, learn, and explore the world around them has been an absolute delight, and it fills me with pride to see them embracing their Canadian heritage. They are a constant reminder of the hope and promise that each new generation brings, and I am thankful every day for the love and happiness they bring into my life.

In Robert Sapolsky’s recent book, ‘Determined’, he writes, ” … we are nothing more or less than the cumulative biological and environmental luck, over which we had no control, that has brought us to this moment.” This resonates so strongly with me. As I celebrate 40 years in Canada and reflect on the incredible journey that brought me here, I feel so incredibly lucky. Each day brings its own joys, challenges, and opportunities for growth, and I cherish this life I’ve lived. At the same time, I look forward to the future with hope and optimism, eager to see what adventures lie ahead for me and my family. #weareallconnected
