Kids at Garry Point

Gorgeous pink light this morning as we run. The sea mist softens, making a stunning view across the long grass to the ocean, with cows and a heron adding to the beauty.

I’ve changed from a couple of months ago. My body’s, stronger, more flexible, not grunting when I put on a sock! I’m loving joining Marie on her runs, such a positive feeling.

As we round the point I see a bunch of kids. I’m guessing 50 at least, very unusual at such an early hour. For a moment I’m back in London in the 1970’s. School! Very few positive thoughts about that era. Funny how old patterns surface. Bias, from my childhood.

What are they doing? Marie thinks it’s one of the local high school’s grad year events. My fears that this may become a problem disappear. I’m very different now. This life is beautiful and safe. Using my iPhone, I make gorgeous images of this group silhouetted in the early light.

Before resuming our run we walk over. “Look what he’s created,” Marie says to the group. They are keen to see. She has such a lovely way of putting everyone at ease. I’m stuck at how polite these young folk are. “Do you think you could share those?” I’m asked. So full of eagerness and excitement. “Absolutely!” I start to fumble with my phone, thinking I’ll add a new contact. “Can you Airdrop them?” “Of course,” I say remembering, and try to figure out how. One of the kids asks, “Can I help?” And I pass my phone to the young digital native, watching as her fingers fly across my screen in a blur of deftly accurate movements. In seconds, she has the images, and the group delights in the scenes I’ve captured.

“Are you okay if I post these?” I ask. “Of course”, says Speedy Fingers, “we appreciate you!”

We’re running on.
